Zanshin

Zanshin (残心)

Zanshin is one of the most vital concepts in Shotokan Karate and Japanese [[4]], translating directly to "remaining mind," "continuing awareness," or "lingering alertness." It describes a state of total, relaxed awareness before, during, and especially after executing a technique, ensuring that a martial artist maintains physical poise, mental readiness, and tactical control over their opponent and immediate environment rather than dropping their guard.

Zenkutsu-dachi

Zenkutsu-dachi (前屈立ち)

Zenkutsu-dachi is the foundational forward stance in Shotokan Karate, widely known as the "front stance" or "forward leaning stance." Characterized by its long, low, and powerful base, this pillar posture places sixty percent of the body's weight over a bent front leg while locking the rear leg straight, providing maximum forward stability, ground drive, and structural power for linear punching and blocking.
